The Poetry Challenge – Week 6 – A Thing Of Beauty – The Top Three!!

This weeks title was “A Thing Of Beauty” and once again all of you have set the standard incredibly high! In the past the winner has gone up on The Poetry Challenge – The Top Voted!  page and I have given their blog a shout out on twitter, now there is another incentive! As you may have seen I have just started up a weekly post called The Guest where I ask a fellow poet a few questions and let them showcase one of their poems or maybe two if they wish, so from now on every winner will have the option to participate if they want to, which I really hope they do!

The following three poems are the ones that I found the best out of all the submissions. The poems are labelled “A, B, C,” just comment the letter of the relevant poem that you find the best. Voting will close next Friday!!! Get Voting!!!

A - Janzen

As she stood up to leave,
I watched her
As she got on her feet,
I watched her
As she pushed back her seat,
I watched her
As she fled to the street,
I watched her

The last of her memory was now all I had
Keeping all that was good, and forgetting the bad
As I sat there and watched her, I couldn’t believe
The girl whom I loved was now ready to leave

As she got up, I memorized all that I could
Didn’t chase after her like a normal guy would
Instead I did what I thought would be best
To hold a good memory despite my tight chest

I’ve stapled in mind the grace of her walk,
The smile on her lips whenever she talked,
The colour of her hair as it hit the sunlight,
Despite the sad fact that she left me that night

I hold on to the days we weren’t like this
And live for the nights she’d give me a kiss
To fight harder for her should’ve been a duty
For this girl, hands down, is a real thing of beauty

B -jymiely

Ethereal dust sprinkled on thy eyes
The reason why it shine, twinkles so bright
Thy hands, soft and smooth, won’t give a fight
Longed to touch it, if time permits, or dies.
Is the night sky comparable to your gaze?
Never, not an inch, for in thy sight I see
My image, so feeble, ugly: wants to flee
What was left in me? Awe and amaze.
Lightning speed how time fleets
Chasing physical enchantment
What was left on her youthful gleam?
Wrinkled, dried face, which I lament.
In stillness of the night, kindness and beauty I crave
Grandmother, I missed you. Soon I’ll visit your grave.

C - wendystrohm

We’ve walked here and there and all about

Strode through the rain till the sun came out

Bathing the fields in golden light

Making the world suddenly bright

And then we paused in the midst of our march

To admire the greatest beautiful arch

A rainbow shimmering in the sky

And we’re full of wonder, by and by

And we speculate – me and my friend

What lies beneath the rainbow’s end?

Is there a fabled crock of gold?

No! It is a castle – crumbling and old…

Once again congratulations to Polly Robinson last weeks winner and everyone check out my “The Guest” post which she is on, here’s the link —>The Guest – Polly Robinson !  Thanks all and get voting!

I think it has to be C (by a cat’s whisker!)

  5. ClownPonders says:

By the way the voting has gone so far I think this may be a close contest!

  7. leekirs1 says:

In addition to having rhythm and flow, the poem evokes feeling from the reader. Also important to me is proper English, grammar and spelling. I understand that some of the more raw poems, written more to be spoken aloud in a coffeehouse, perhaps, are very popular now, but I like to get the essence of the piece in written form first.

  8. MarinaSofia says:

Nice selection to choose from, all very different. Having read them a couple of times, I think C gets my vote.
