Last Words – The Top Three
Sorry that I’m a day late posting the top three but I was busy yesterday and just couldn’t find the time to post it. The poems are labelled “A, B, C,” just comment the letter of the relevant poem that you find the best. Voting will close 12.00PM on Monday!
A: By visionary7
The feeling of emptiness
From the tortured rover,
Let’s my heart realize
That it’s finally over.
Thinking of your laugh
Was a beauty unmatched,
But now it has vanished
And my soul has to be patched.
In a decrepit corner
With my mind adrift,
This feeling of uncertainty
Is one you can’t sift.
How does it look
in a world without you,
Because it’s hard to live
In a dream that’s through.
Our time together
has come to a close,
Tears stream from the eyes
From the symbolism of the rose.
The heart is shredded
From memories of your scent,
So now my soul
Is on a constant descent.
Our memories together
Caused me to fly,
Peace was made vacant
Because we had to say goodbye.
B: By Ethan Greenwood
Planning my last words in some sterile cocoon
Scanning this lost ward of shadows and ghosts
My dearest friend welcomed her twilight at noon
I watched her dissolve on some South Asian coast
A brief phrase, a quip, a witty observation
An appropriate summation of an ordinary soul
So profound as to warrant granite preservation
Yet modest and quiet, and warm in the cold
Pretense is born in the effort to destroy it
I can’t control whispers while I’m feeding the ground
What good is a eulogy if I can’t enjoy it
And footsteps ignore my commemorative mound?
A cold sweat, a terror, a panic ensues
Every word has already been spoken, I fear
My story is trapped in a web of wires and tubes
I’m a gargoyle watching the Black Widow draw near
Just as I grasp the best prelude for dying
She’s checking the clock, and I feel my heart sighing
My voice is relying on lungs that aren’t trying
My last words are lost, but at least I’m not lying.
C: By scatteredpeicesofme
A light so bright, I cannot see
Call heads or tails, flip once for me
The two headed coin was destiny’s call
It’s time for me now, for once, for all
The straps so tight, I cannot move
Fight them, I’ll not, I’ve nothing to prove
For if they need a body, I’ll offer them mine
Then “Justice” be served, the worst of the wine
Innocent me, yet here I lie
As they chant and cry, today I’ll die
I tried to save her, yet still she passed
I think, for my next words will be my last
“I loved your daughter.” I said to them both
“And I did my best to keep my oath.
I wanted only to love her and keep her yet safe
I gave her my world, though I be but a waif.”
“When he entered our home, bearing shotgun in hand
I tried to distract and then fight like a man.
I was scared for my life, as would be you too,
But I disarmed the masked man, though his grip be like glue”
“He kicked out my feet as I turned and I shot.
That move filled our bed with buckshot, double aught.”
“Stop it! Just stop!” they cried, weeping in pain
Holding each other and cursing my name
“That’s enough from you for you’ve come to your end”
Said the warden, hands shaking, for he was still my friend
“I believe you” he whispered, injecting my death
“Go to sleep, my old friend, and dream of free breath”
As fatigue covered me, I looked in his eyes
“You know that I loved her, I’ve told you no lies!”
Tears streaked to the floor as the darkness did creep
“I’m sorry,” I cried as I fell to deep sleep
These are the final three, so please all add the letter of your favourite poem in the comment section below, remember on Monday the voting closes.
